What live in care means
With live-in care, a caregiver stays in the client’s home and provides support throughout the day according to the agreed care plan. The caregiver must have a private bedroom and appropriate time for meals, rest and sleep. Live-in care is different from 24-hour split-shift care, which uses rotating caregivers for continuous awake coverage.
Live in support may include
- Companionship, conversation and social engagement
- Meal preparation and support with everyday routines
- Light housekeeping, laundry and linen changes
- Assistance with dressing, grooming and bathroom routines when included in the care plan
- Walking and mobility support
- Medication reminders without medication administration
- Safety awareness and observation
